HARRISBURG — Gov. Ed Rendell on Thursday signed dozens of bills into law, including measures to repair bridges, hire more county judges and restrict the use of mandatory overtime for nurses.

The governor approved a new system to review the deaths of children and a $50-a-month increase in black lung benefits for former coal miners.

The state's Wiretap Act was extended until 2013, removing a loophole that let a defense lawyer obtain the cell-phone records of law enforcement officials without the officials' knowledge or consent.

There are new licensing mandates for acupuncturists, crane operators and massage therapists.

New municipal rules were adopted for amateur radio antennas, new regulations were imposed on out-of-state recreational vehicle dealers, and new registration requirements were approved for online auctioneering trading assistants.

Nine judicial districts will be getting new Common Pleas judges: Adams, Carbon, Cumberland, Dauphin, Delaware, Franklin and Fulton, Lackawanna, Montgomery, Northampton and York.

Penalties have been increased for willful failure to pay court-ordered support, and scrap dealers must comply with reporting rules aimed at decreasing theft.

Sales of mercury thermometers will be prohibited within a year.

Johnstown's Walnut Street Bridge is now the Martin Luther King Jr. Bridge. And a stretch of U.S. Route 15 in Tioga County has been named the Sen. Roger A. Madigan Highway, in honor of the retiring leader on transportation issues.
