PITTSBURGH — The state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is giving several Pittsburgh area groups $1 million to improve recreation trails, plant trees and improve parks.

Half the money will go toward a bridge and trail project that will help complete the Great Allegheny Passage trail linking Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C.

The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy is getting $250,000 to improve trails and add signs in several parks.

The TreeVitalize program is getting $250,000 for its partnership with various groups to plant 20,000 trees over the next five years.
