Knoch's Gibson lifts SRU

Slippery Rock University sophomore and Knoch High graduate Chelsea Gibson won both of her singles matches and the pair of doubles matches she competed in as The Rock dominated both West Chester (8-1) and Cheyney (9-0) in women's tennis.

Gibson won the second singles event via forfeit.

Slippery Rock University's Jen Harpp placed first at the Indiana (Pa.) Women's Cross Country Invitational Saturday with a time of 23 minutes and four seconds on the 6,000-meter course.Harpp's effort led The Rock to the overall team title.SRU junior Pat Reagan won the Indiana (Pa.) Men's Invitational with a time of 26:34 (8,000 meters), as The Rock tied IUP for the top team spot.

The Rock received two goals apiece from Alison Hindley and Ashley Paganie in a 5-0 shutout of visiting Mansfield.Rachel Knapp also scored a goal in the win.

Anastasia Urbanik and Jen Blasko tallied 15 and 10 kills, respectively, as Slippery Rock University rolled over visiting Gannon, 3-1.The Rock (10-6, 1-3) won the match by scores of 25-19, 15-25, 25-23 and 25-8.

Brian Mercer's two-yard scoring run with 1:59 left to play was the lone score in the second half as the Grove City College football team outscored visiting Bethany , 41-35, Saturday night.It was Mercer's fourth touchdown of the game and he added 126 yards on 29 carries.Grove City's defense was led by Adam Eichler, who made 14 tackles, including one sack.The Bison outgained the Wolverines(2-1, 1-0) 390-372, though Grove City's defense came up with all three of the game's turnovers.
