Margaret Campbell conducts a mid-day brushing session Sept. 16, 1964, with her second grade class at West Sunbury Elementary School. The students were participating in a University of Pittsburgh program that tested fluoride toothpaste against nonfluoride toothpaste. Fluoride has been found to be an effective anticavity compound, and nearly all toothpaste sold today contains it.
