WASHINGTON — A Western Pennsylvania coroner has ruled a crash that killed five people and injured seven others an accident.

The crash happened on April 24 when a van carrying mentally disabled people on a trip to the Pittsburgh Zoo pulled into an intersection and was struck by a tractor-trailer on a rural highway in Somerset Township, Washington County.

PITTSBURGH — A suburban Pittsburgh man has admitted driving his friend's wife's body to Tennessee and setting the van with her in it on fire.Fifty-year-old Karl Laughlin, of Clairton, pleaded guilty to arson, abuse of a corpse and conspiracy on Monday in Allegheny County Court. He'll be sentenced later.Laughlin testified earlier this month that he saw 42-year-old Henry Lanz of Scott, shoot 39-year-old Paula Lanz in January 2007.A jury convicted Lanz of first-degree murder.

CARNEGIE — Police say a robbery suspect shot at them during a 30-minute vehicle and foot chase before the suspect surrendered.Carnegie Chief Jeff Harbin says the chase began when a patrolman saw 44-year-old Merton Norton Jr. of Pittsburgh wearing a ski mask running along a street Monday.The officer followed Norton, who got into an SUV driven by 42-year-old Daniel Crowe, of Carnegie, before eventually stopping the vehicle. The men got out and Norton began shooting and ran.No one was injured.Police say the men robbed a restaurant.
