PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Penguins will begin an unusually short training camp Wednesday thanks to their plans to open the regular season in Sweden.

The Penguins camp will last just 10 days, and include just four exhibition games. Then the team flies overseas to prepare for two season opening games against Ottawa that will be played in Stockholm

Usually, the Penguins play seven or eight preseason games and camp lasts about three weeks. The Penguins also are scheduled to play an exhibition game in Finland Oct. 2 before opening the regular season with games Oct. 4 and 5 against the Senators in Sweden.

Coach Michel Therrien says the shortened camp means fewer opportunities for younger players to prove themselves.
