PITTSBURGH — A federal judge threw out a lawsuit filed by a woman who said she was held captive by a school security guard for 10 years and who claimed the school district, police and others did not do enough to find her.

U.S. District Judge Gary Lancaster ruled Friday that Tanya Kach's suit was filed too late. Attorneys for Kach filed an appeal Monday.

The McKeesport woman resurfaced in March 2006 after secretly living with Thomas Hose, a school security guard whom she met and ran away with in 1996, when she was 14.

Kach said the relationship changed soon after she moved into his bedroom in 1996 at his parents' home and that she stayed only because he threatened her.

Hose, 50, is serving 5 to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexual assault and other charges last year.

Lancaster noted that Kach had several chances before 2006 to come forward.

Police came twice to Hose's home in 1999 and Kach hid from the officers. Kach was not physically restrained and had access to a phone. Kach also left the house in 2000 for errands and shopping.
