PITTSBURGH — The presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church said there will be a vote this week at a meeting of the national House of Bishops on whether to remove Bishop Robert Duncan of Pittsburgh ministry.

The step comes as the Diocese of Pittsburgh nears an Oct. 4 vote on whether to secede from the Episcopal Church for a more conservative alignment.

A pastoral letter from Duncan indicated he would abide by the Thursday vote of the House of Bishops, but that he doesn’t believe it can stop the diocesan effort to secede.

BRUSH VALLEY — A coroner said a University of Pittsburgh professor drowned after falling into a stream while fishing.Indiana County Coroner Michael Baker said 68-year-old Keiko McDonald of Pittsburgh died Sunday morning at Indiana Regional Medical Center.Her husband told authorities he found her floating face-down in the water Saturday afternoon at a trout club in Brush Valley Township, about 40 miles northeast of Pittsburgh. McDonald’s husband said he took a walk while she fished and returned to find her in the water.The coroner said she apparently fell, hit her head and slipped into the stream.McDonald taught Japanese literature and cinema but was on a fall sabbatical.Used fire truck

VANDERGRIFT — A Western Pennsylvania fire engine is headed to the Bahamas, where it will be used by a town that now is an hour away from the nearest fire station.Vandergrift Volunteer No. 1 Fire Department sold the 1983 truck for $4,050 on eBay to Fire Rescue Development Program, a nonprofit that helps equip firefighters in developing countries.The truck is headed to Alice Town, a village on the island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas.
