PITTSBURGH — The staff at Allegheny County's juvenile detention center will be retrained and the agency's records audited to correct problems uncovered by state public welfare officials.

The state put the Shuman Juvenile Detention Center on a provisional license after outlining several problems last month.

Inspectors cited violations of minimum staffing and staff training requirements, inadequate fire drills, a leaky roof, dirty air vents and poor health records. Inspectors found staff failed to record the medications residents receive and had no written plans for how to treat many residents in a medical emergency.

Officials say some problems have been fixed, and the others will be addressed by the training and the audit.
