QUARRYVILLE — State police said a pickup truck driver choked on his coffee and passed out, and his truck then rammed an unoccupied modular home.

Police said Gene Patterson was driving the pickup truck for a construction company when he choked on his coffee and started gagging. He told police he "went for the brake" and the next thing he knew he woke up inside the modular home.

The accident happened shortly before 5:30 a.m. Wednesday on a rural road north of Quarryville in Lancaster County.

Patterson wasn't hurt, but the crash knocked an electrical wire in the basement loose, starting a fire. Fire officials said the home was knocked off its foundation.

The owner, Ben Beiler, said he had just rented the home to a family of three, which was supposed to move in Monday.
