CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cleveland pitcher and Seneca Valley High product Zach Jackson suffered his first loss with the Indians Sunday.

Jackson lasted just five innings into his start against Seattle, giving up six earned runs on seven hits while striking out five and walking one.

The Mariners won the game, 6-4.

NORTON, Mass. — Despite a volatile new points system designed to give more players a chance, Vijay Singh took the suspense out of the PGA Tour Playoffs with an 8-under 63 on Monday to win the Deutsche Bank Championship in record fashion.It was his second straight victory, giving him such a large lead that he could wrap up the $10 million prize before the Tour Championship.Singh set tournament records with a five-shot victory over Mike Weir (71) finishing at 22-under 262, breaking by two shots the record set by Adam Scott in 2003.

NEW YORK — NFL players will wear a uniform patch this season to honor NFL Players' Association leader Gene Upshaw, who died Aug. 20.The league announced Monday that the patch will have the initials GU and the number 63, which he wore while playing for the Oakland Raiders.Upshaw died of pancreatic cancer just three days after he was diagnosed.The patch will be worn on the left chest of jerseys and is scheduled to make its debut Thursday, when the New York Giants and Washington Redskins open the season. Upshaw's wife, Terri, and his three sons will participate in the coin toss.

SALEM, Va. — Koby Clemens, the son of Roger Clemens, and two other minor league teammates were arrested early Sunday after a disturbance at a restaurant in Salem.In a news release, police said Clemens, Mark Ori and Jimmy Goethals were arrested after police were called to the parking lot of a restaurant. Clemens and Ori were charged with disorderly conduct. Goethals was charged with assault and battery.The three play for the Salem Avalanche, which played its final game of the season Monday.

NEW ORLEANS — The Louisiana Superdome, for now still scheduled to host an NFL regular-season opener Sunday between the New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, appeared to be in good condition after the worst of Hurricane Gustav had passed, the stadium's operator said.Doug Thornton, vice president of SMG, the company that manages the Superdome and neighboring New Orleans Arena, said there was no noticeable structural or interior damage, but stressed that a more thorough inspection still wasn't done.
