SLIPPERY ROCK— Slippery Rock University recently had 79 athletes receive Academic Achievement Awards, presented by WeatherPORTon behalf of the Division IIAthletic Directors Association.
A few of the honorees — Lacey Cochran (Freeport), Bill Elliott and Sarah Reppermund (Knoch), Billy Herman (Grove City) and Travis Sarver (Slippery Rock) — are from the Butler County area.
To be eligible, a student athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5, completed a minimum of four semesters and been an active member of an intercollegiate team during the 2007-08 academic year.
CORAOPOLIS— Butler Country Club's Rob McClellan won the Low-Professional event at Montour Heights Country Club Monday with a score of 65.Three strokes behind McClellan was Saxonburg resident and Treesdale Golf Club's Joe Boros at 68.
