GREENSBORO, N.C. — Vinny Schmidt had a single, a double, an RBI and picked up the save as the Butler Township Gold Federation Colt squad defeated Rockingham, N.C., 5-4 in its first game at the Colt World Series Eastern Regional Wednesday.

Alek Bollinger picked up the win, doubled and had an RBI for Butler Township.

Mason McLaughlin drove in two runs while Tony Campbell had a double and Cody Montgomery added an RBI.

Butler Township (23-2) plays Friday against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.

WHEELING, W.Va. — The Butler 15-and-under fast-pitch girls traveling team finished second in the Softball in the Hills Class A tournament last weekend.The team posted wins of 3-2 over the Road Runners, 8-0 over the Lady Jaguars, 10-4 over the N.W. Stars, 7-1 over the Lady Jaguars and 9-8 over the Ohio Reign before dropping a 5-1 decision to Marshall County in the championship game.Angie Reddick hit two home runs over the weekend while Becca Schnur added one.
