Pittsburgh, county leaders to meet casino regulators
PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh and Allegheny County leaders will meet state regulators to discuss financial problems plaguing a stalled Pittsburgh casino project.
Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and County Chief Executive Dan Onorato will meet in Pittsburgh today with top officials from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.
They will discuss the proposed transfer of a slots license awarded to Detroit businessman Don Barden to a new group headed by Chicago billionaire Neil Bluhm. The transfer will secure financing for the casino.
The Majestic Star casino's prime contractor has said dozens of subcontractors may quit after going without pay for several months. Others warned that if stalled construction does not restart by Wednesday the project could fall into bankruptcy.
