GREENSBURG — A Westmoreland County man has pleaded guilty but mentally ill to beating and robbing his elderly father over a dog that was put to sleep 20 years ago.

Forty-two-year-old Eric Gregory Taylor, of Export, has been jailed since the attack in January 2007. He'll be sentenced within 90 days on charges including robbery and aggravated assault.

During the attack, the father says his son told him, "You're the one who killed my dog."

The father says his son was apparently referring to a dog euthanized about 20 years ago.
