HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Jeffrey Miller said troopers have made good use of Tasers since 3,000 were distributed statewide.

Miller said troopers used Tasers 144 times during the first six months of this year. He said by firing a 50,000-volt charge into someone who won't surrender, police can avoid using guns or clubs.

State police started by providing Tasers to 18 officers statewide in 2006.
