TIME CAPSULE

FAMILY TRADITION — William F. Young, right, who is about to be sworn in as the new county coroner and Judge John C. Dillon, center, look over the commission for office shortly before the ceremony on July 17, 1970. Observing are Sheriff Robert Watson, who had served as acting coroner, and Young's 9-year-old son, William F. Young III. Young was appointed coroner to serve out the term of J. Clinton Atwell, who died. Young served the county as coroner for the next 30 years. When he resigned in 2000, William F. Young III was appointed to serve the rest of his father's unexpired term. Young III was elected to a four-year term in 2001 and re-elected in 2005.
