CRANBERRY, Venango County — Six pitchers combined to give up only three hits and record eight strikeouts as the East Butler 9- and 10-year-old Little League team beat Cranberry 22-5 Wednesday in the District 25 playoffs.

Dave Matson, Brandon Wright, Alex Harrison, Dallas Hays, Nathan Kibbie and Lake Sankey all took the mound for East Butler.

Hays had two triples and a single, Kibbie had two singles and Harrison had a triple to power the offense.

East Butler faces Franklin in another district playoff at 6 p.m. Monday at the East Butler Little League fields.

SYLVANIA, Ohio — LPGA Tour golfer Paula Creamer knew she was playing well. She was surprised just how well.Creamer birdied nine of the last 11 holes Thursday, including the final three, for a course-record 60 on the par-71 Highland Meadows layout. She held a five-stroke lead after the opening round of the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic.Only after she finished did she realize how close she came to golf's magic number of 59."I didn't know it was a par 71," Creamer said with a laugh. "I thought it was a par 72. If I would have known that, who knows?"

SILVIS, Ill. — Kenny Perry takes pride in his ability to absorb shots and bury them. And he's been doing plenty of both lately.While others wonder why he's skipping majors, Perry's enjoying one of his best runs in more than two decades on the PGA Tour. That trend continued when he fired a 6-under 65 in the first round of the John Deere Classic Thursday, and it won't stop if he keeps playing this way."That's OK," Perry said.Perry chose not to try qualifying for the U.S. Open last month, and he won't be heading to the British Open next week. Instead, he'll play a secondary tournament in Milwaukee.

NEW YORK — Evan Longoria had big plans for next week's baseball All-Star break: a trip to Las Vegas with some friends.Tampa Bay's rookie third baseman ended up with an even better trip to New York for the last All-Star game at Yankee Stadium.Longoria and Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Corey Hart were elected All-Stars by fans in Internet balloting that ended Thursday.Longoria received 9 million votes and Hart got 8 million votes.
