KEEPING TRADITION ALIVE

The Butler High School stage band performs July 6, 1965, at a West End neighborhood night. The 12-member group, which was referred to as the Lab Band, was conducted by Jim Cunningham. Today, Butler High School has a 28-member jazz band that is a class offered during the second semester of the school year. It is directed by 1969 Butler graduate Andy Yaracs, who played in the Lab Band from 1966 to 1969. Other bands at the school are the Golden Tornado Marching Band, a symphonic band and the Tornado Big Band, which is an extracurricular activity for students that performs regularly in public.
