FRANKLIN — The National Weather Service said it was checking out reports of a funnel cloud and downed trees in Venango County.

The weather service said the funnel cloud was spotted shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday in Sugarcreek Township and that there were downed trees in that area and east of Franklin, the county seat.

There also were reports of downed trees in the Greenville-Jamestown area of Mercer County, but no reports of a funnel cloud.

PERRYOPOLIS — The Washington County Coroner said an autopsy is needed to confirm that a 2-year-old boy drowned in a pool after wandering away from a church picnic.The coroner said 2-year-old Donovan Barksdale of Belle Vernon wandered away from Sunday's picnic at First Christian Church in Perry Township, Fayette County. The Washington County Coroner was handling the case because the boy was pronounced dead about an hour later in the emergency room of Monongahela Valley Hospital.

OHIOPYLE — Police at Ohiopyle State Park said they are again searching for a 26-year-old man who was swept over a 20-foot waterfall while wading in the Youghiogheny River.The park is known for its whitewater rapids, and witnesses said the man appeared to get caught in a swift current and was unable to get back to shore Friday afternoon.Park manager John Hallas said police and volunteers searched a seven-mile stretch of the river every day since then to no avail.

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police said a 7-year-old girl who allegedly killed an infant at a day-care center had anger-management issues.Lt. Dan Herrmann said the girl cannot be charged with homicide because she is too young. Instead, police said the girl eventually could be placed in foster care.An autopsy Saturday showed 10-month-old Marcia Poston died of head trauma.Police said the 7-year-old picked up the baby and twice threw her onto a carpeted cement basement floor on Friday.A 20-year-old caregiver was supervising the five children in the day care, but police said she was upstairs changing another child's diaper when the attack occurred.

HARRISBURG — A Texas auction house is set to sell off more artifacts that were slated for the Wild West museum once planned for Harrisburg.Mayor Stephen Reed collected about 10,000 artifacts in hopes of creating the museum in central Pennsylvania. He later had to scrap the idea and is now selling off many of the pieces.In November, the city collected about $1.4 million when it sold off items such as a Gatling gun and a Wells Fargo coach.This time around, the items consist mostly of photos, maps and other documents that will be sold at Heritage Auction's showrooms in Dallas on Friday.
