WASHINGTON — A Washington County woman has been sentenced to life in prison for killing her newborn daughter and throwing the body in the trash.

A jury in March convicted 30-year-old Jessica Rizor of Washington of first-degree murder and other charges.

Authorities say Rizor gave birth on Nov. 26, 2004, in the bathroom of the home she shared with her mother and then-husband. Authorities say the husband found the baby in the garbage after Rizor told him to take out the trash, which she said contained Thanksgiving leftovers.

An autopsy showed the baby was born alive but suffocated in the trash bag.

The defense contended Rizor suffered from "depersonalization disorder," which is prevalent in women who don't recognize they are pregnant.
