Summer writing programs offered

For students seeking structured training, some colleges and universities offer writing support for children during summer months.

The University of Pittsburgh is among more than 200 sites participating in the National Writing Project, geared toward enhancing teaching, learning and public literacy.

Although some NWP programs focus on workshops for teachers, the project also hosts The Young Writers Institute, a summer writing camp for students in grades four through 12.

Sessions are scheduled for grades four through eight June 23 to 27 in Mount Lebanon and July 7 to 18 at the University of Pittsburgh's Oakland campus. A session for those in high school also will be offered at the university location July 7 to 18.
