Police suspect shooting, bank heist are related
NEW KENSINGTON — Police are searching for suspects after a New Kensington bank was robbed at the same time the city's police were diverted to a shooting at a grocery store two miles away. No injuries were reported in either incident.
State and local police and the FBI suspect the bank heist and shooting may have been related.
Authorities say gunmen fired shots into the windows of the Golden Dawn supermarket on Freeport Road around 9:10 a.m. Witnesses described the gunmen as three black males wearing straw hats.
Minutes after police began investigating, a National City Bank branch on Freeport Street was robbed. An undisclosed amount of money was taken.
New Kensington is about 17 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.
