PITTSBURGH

PITTSBURGH — A group that plans to build a World War II memorial can start raising money for the project.

The Pittsburgh Arts Commission has unanimously approved the proposed monument's design. The memorial is expected to cost $3 million and be built by the fall of 2009 on the North Shore.

The monument would be of stone and glass panels suspended between stainless steel frames arranged in a circle on a stone court.
