Drinking death leads to jail

GREENSBURG — A Westmoreland County woman has been sentenced to up to 23 months in jail for hosting a birthday party where a 16-year-old drank herself to death.

Forty-year-old Diane Rose Adorante, of Arnold, was sentenced Thursday in the death of Samantha Lynn Scheuring, of Vandergrift. Adorante previously pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter.

Authorities say Scheuring had a blood-alcohol content of 0.44 percent when she died in Jan. 2007. The legal limit for driving is 0.08 percent.

Adorante apologized, but says she didn't provide the alcohol.

Twenty-two-year-old Michael Alan Baker of Vandergrift is serving two years' probation for furnishing alcohol to minors. Another man awaits trial on that charge.
