OPENING-DAY SHUTOUT — Butler High School third baseman Mike Nanni trots over home plate after a wild pitch by Kittanning's pitcher in the fifth inning of Butler's season-opening home game at Pullman Park on April 8, 1971. Nanni had four hits, and the Tornado won the game 8-0 on a two-hit shutout by pitchers Gary Franchuk and Rick Steighner. Butler still plays its home games at Pullman Park, but the township planning commission recently passed the school district's "stadium plan," which, among other improvements, calls for the construction of a new baseball stadium.
