The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture provided this report on the March 24 New Wilmington livestock auction.

CATTLE 188 — (Compared with last week's sale, slaughter steers not tested; slaughter cows sold mostly steady.)

Steers — Choice 1-3, few, 1450-1520 lbs., 87.25-88.50; select 1-2, two, 83.50 and 87.50; standard 1-2, few, 75.-77.

Holstein steers— Choice 2-3, 1325-1555 lbs., 74.50-78.50; select 1-2, few, 73.75-75.50; standard 1-2, few, 60.-72.

Heifers — Choice 1-3, few, 1195-1560 lbs., 84.-89.; select 1-2, one, 87.50; standard 1-2, two, 70. and 75.

Cows — Breakers, 75-80 percent lean, 54.50-59.50, two to 64.; boners, 80-85 percent lean, 52.-58.; lean, 85-90 percent lean, 44.50-51. Shells 43.50 and down.

Bulls— Yield grade 1, few, 1635-2280 lbs., 63.50-66.50; yield grade 2, few, 1160-2175 lbs., 57.-60.

Feeder cattle — Steers— Few, medium 1-2, 450-600 lbs., 84.-95.; few, large 3, 325-575 lbs., 57.-65.; few, medium and large 3, 700-850 lbs., 50.-63. Heifers— Few, medium 1, 395-410 lbs., 84.-90.; medium 2, 400-520 lbs., 69.-81.; few, large 2, 500-675 lbs., 67.50-70. Bulls— Medium 1-2, 500-700 lbs., 71.50-90.; large 3, 500-700 lbs., 49.-51.

CALVES 40

Vealers— Standard and good, 70-100 lbs., 10.-30.; utility, 50-80 lbs., 5.-17.50.

Farm calves— No. 1, Holstein bulls, 90-130 lbs., 60.-70., two to 90.; few, No. 2, 80-120 lbs., 35.-60. Two, No. 2, Holstein heifers, 80 and 105 lbs., 200. and 220. One, beef cross bull and heifer, 95 lbs., 50.

HOGS 40

Barrows and gilts— 45-50 percent lean, 220-290 lbs., 30.-36.

Sows— Two, 1-3, 451 and 567 lbs., 24. and 26.
