ATLANTA — Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Jack Wilson strained his left calf while running out a single and had to leave Thursday night's game against the Atlanta Braves.

Wilson will likely miss today's game at Florida and was listed as day to day.

He hurt himself while running out a run-scoring single in the seventh inning. Wilson pulled up about halfway down the first-base line and hopped the rest of the way on his right leg.

Wilson said he doesn't think his injury is serious.

NEW ORLEANS — Nashville Sounds pitcher Zach Jackson allowed four runs and eight hits over six innings in a 5-2 opening-day loss to New Orleans Thursday in Pacific Coast League action.The Seneca Valley graduate struck out two and walked one for the Sounds, the Class AAA affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Jessica Kortz belted two grand slam home runs and finished with 10 RBI as the Slippery Rock University softball team defeated Salem International (W.Va.) 16-3 and 22-5 Thursday.Both games were cut to five innings by the mercy rule.Stacey Rhoades hit a two-run homer as part of a 10-run SRU rally in the first inning of the first game and Meghan McHenry hit a round-tripper in the nightcap.SRU(16-4), which ended four-game losing streak, also received three hits apiece from Shardea Croes, Lisa Getgen and Jordan Zeunges.McHenry and Zeunges totaled four RBI each while Getgen and Rhoades had three apiece and Croes had two.

CINCINNATI — Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chris Henry lost his job while in jail awaiting arraignment on assault charges Thursday.The Bengals cut him after his fifth arrest since 2005.An attorney for Henry, 24, entered not guilty pleas for him after Henry was accused of punching an 18-year-old man in the face and breaking his car window with a beer bottle.Municipal Court Judge Bernie Bouchard set bond at $51,000 on charges of misdemeanor assault and criminal damaging. Noting Henry's previous arrests involving drugs, guns and alcohol, the judge called Henry "a one-man crime wave." He ordered electronic monitoring if Henry makes bail.

NEW YORK — A year removed from a loss in the national title game, Ohio State finally has a championship trophy to carry home.Nevermind that it's from the NIT. Jamar Butler and his buddies couldn't care less.Butler had 19 points and eight assists in his final college game, leading Ohio State to a 92-85 victory over Massachusetts Thursday night and prompting the victory celebration inside Madison Square Garden that they couldn't have last year in Atlanta.
