SLIPPERYROCK — Caitlin O'Brien scored three goals and Alison Rusnak and Jayme Timmons each added two, but the Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team fell to Kutztown 15-9 Monday.

Goalie Ashley Winkelspecht stopped 11 shots for The Rock (0-8).

MOUNT LEBANON — Numerous Butler County Special Olympians won gold medals at the Western Bowling Tournament held Saturday at Noble Manor Lanes.Mary Jo Limmer, Mike Nebel and Marci Neill won gold medals in singles competition. The team of Larry Fend, George Neigh, Valerie Stiffy and Joan Updegraff, along with the team of Tom Lapsansky, Miles Morris, Tim Spence and Tom Zinkham, also won gold medals.Lapsansky, Morris, Spence and Zinkham were selected to compete in the State Summer Games June 5 to 8 at Penn State University.Barbara Steinmetz and Eric Van Schiek won silver medals while Betty Double and Julie Held earned bronze in singles competition. The team of John Burgard, Denise Maire, Jacob Markovitch and Steve Spisak won silver.Steinmetz was chosen as an alternate for the State Summer Games.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Vanderbilt University freshman guard/forward Jence Rhoads tallied eight points and two assists in Saturday's 80-66 regional semifinal loss to Maryland in the women's NCAA tournament.Rhoads, a 2007 graduate of Slippery Rock High, connected on four of her five shots. The Commodores finished with a 25-9 record.

BUFFALOTWP— Because of last week's rainout, Lernerville Speedway will now open its 2008 season Friday with a non-points night. The Fab Four points season will begin April 11.The All-Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car race originally scheduled for May 23 has been moved to April 25. The All-Stars will be competing with the World of Outlaws at Lowe's Motor Speedway May 23.The May 23 show will now be a Fab Four racing night.

MERCER—Mercer Raceway Park and Big Daddy's Speed Center have announced plans for a Ray Baselj Benefit Barbecue Dinner at the track May 26.The dinner will be held in conjunction with the inaugural Steel Valley Memorial Day Classic.A Grove City resident, Baselj competed in the Mini-Stock, Sprint Car and Modified divisions during his racing career and was recently elected president of the BRPModified Tour. He has been diagnosed with throat cancer.Gates will open at noon for the benefit dinner, racing begins at 6 p.m. Dinner tickets are $12.Call 724-342-6805 or 330-792-4113 for details.
