A LOOK BACK
The
Spaide Shirt Co. opened Feb. 15, 1915, at the old button works factory on Negley Avenue. Five years later, it purchased a building on Brugh Avenue from Spang & Co. Initially manufacturing just work shirts, Spaide expanded production to include dress shirts and jackets and a Spaide Koat for work and sports wear. It employed 500 and made 6,000 shirts daily. Spaide was the first manufacturer to put zippers on shirts. It also took over the operation of the Becker Bros. Overall factory.
