Hiker rescued after fall in park
RED ROCK, Pa. — It took rescue workers eight hours to reach an 18-year-old woman who slipped and fell from an icy trail in a state park in eastern Pennsylvania.
Authorities say the woman was part of a group that included Bloomsburg University students who had strayed onto the slippery path without ice-climbing gear at Ricketts Glen State Park. Police say only hikers with ice climbing gear are permitted there.
The rescue began around 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Crews finally carried the injured woman to safety around 1 a.m. Sunday.
Two rescue workers were hurt trying to reach the woman, who was not identified. It was not clear if she is a Bloomsburg student.
