WESTDEER, Allegheny County — Fire departments and emergency departments are invited to a workshop where they will learn how to apply for Assistance to Firefights Grant.

U.S. Rep. Jason Altmire, D-4th, will host the workshop from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the West Deer No. 3 Volunteer Fire Department, 4371 Gibsonia Road, Gibsonia.

The grant program gives money to first responders to help them purchase equipment and upgrade their facilities. Altmire will be assisted by officials from the Department of Homeland Security to help formulate competitive applications.
