DAYTON — A veteran Armstrong County volunteer firefighter has died preparing to respond to a furnace explosion in a home.

Authorities say 69-year-old Jack Lockhart was with the Dayton Volunteer Fire Department for 49 years. Lockhart was getting ready to respond to the explosion in Ringgold, Jefferson County, when he was stricken Sunday night.

Authorities say Lockhart had a heart attack.

HARMARVILLE — A 51-year-old Allegheny County man is dead after he was electrocuted when a crane struck a high-tension wire. It happened Monday afternoon at a road construction site.Harmar Township police Capt. Rick Toney said a crew was installing concrete barriers along a creek when the crane truck's boom struck the 25,000-volt power line.Toney said a charge went through the crane to the ground, where the victim, 51-year-old Angelo Petricca of Plum, was standing. Toney said the crane operator leapt off the truck when the line was hit.

PHILADELPHIA — A man in a wheelchair and a motorist trying to help him were both struck and killed on a downtown expressway Monday.Police said one of the victims was helping the man in the wheelchair who was stuck.As he pushed the wheelchair, another vehicle slowed to avoid them. But a pickup truck swerved to avoid the slowed vehicle, hit the median and ricocheted into the pair, killing them instantly. Police did not immediately file any charges.
