GREENSBURG — Police say a chess game between two friends at a Westmoreland County apartment turned violent when one put a gun to his head and the other was shot in an ensuing scuffle.

Greensburg Police Capt. George Seranko said the bullet also narrowly missed 23-year-old Zachary Lucov's 9-month-old son who was nearby.

Police said the incident happened Thursday when Lucov pulled out a gun and said he was going to kill himself. Dennis Kleyn tried to stop Lucov, and the gun went off, hitting Kleyn in the elbow. Kleyn was in fair condition at a Pittsburgh hospital.

Seranko said both men had been drinking.

Lucov is charged with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment. He said he doesn't recall wanting to kill himself.

PITTSBURGH — Shawn Hicks was sleeping on his couch when he said he was awoken by police officers who shocked him with a Taser stun gun.The officers responded to a silent alarm about 2:45 a.m. on July 28. Even after Hicks explained to them that he lived there and the officers saw his identification, police shocked him twice more, Hicks said.Hicks, of North Braddock, filed a lawsuit against borough officials Wednesday in Allegheny County Court. In it, he accused the police department of false arrest, battery, assault, intentional infliction of emotional distress and slander.

PITTSBURGH — Allegheny County police said a man who escaped from a downtown Pittsburgh halfway house is wanted on charges he fatally shot a man in West Mifflin.Police said 35-year-old Andre Berry of Duquesne shot Robert Kennedy of Braddock on Jan. 17.Police said Berry signed out of the Renewal Center for work release on Oct. 16 and never returned. Berry has two prosthetic legs and is also wanted for escape. He was finishing up a drug sentence when he escaped from the halfway house.
