SRU basketball wins on road
Ken Ottrix scored 14 points and had six rebounds as the Slippery Rock University men's basketball team snapped its nine-game losing streak with a 60-56 victory at Lock Haven Saturday.
Corey Summerville added 10 points and Butler graduate Jade Burka added six points and a team-high seven rebounds.
The Rock (3-13, 1-1) used a 13-0 run to close out the first half and take a 34-24 lead. Lock Haven (1-15, 1-1) trimmeda 19-point deficit midway through the second half down to two, but a pair of Darnell Johnson free throws sealed the win with four seconds left.
Slippery Rock received 18 points and eight rebounds from Nijha McNeely and Grove City High graduate Julie Molloy added 15 points in a 69-65 victory at Lock Haven Saturday.Sandra Busser added 12 points and six rebounds and KellyAnn Staudinger seven points and eight rebounds for SRU (7-10, 1-1).
On Saturday, SRU lost to California (Pa.) 83-39 and to Lock Haven 65-57, despite Beth Choike, Heather Walbright, Lauren Hervatin and Raquel Woerner's first-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle (3 minutes, 50.22 seconds.
The Rock captured both team titles in Saturday's PSACWest Challenge at Morrow Field House.The men's team prevailed 168-142.5 while the women won 189-147.Freeport graduate Lacey Cochran (400) and Seneca Valley grad Chris Geddis (mile) were among SRU's winners.
