Parents query school board on streaker's forced transfer
ALLENTOWN — Parents and students are asking school board members why a streaking escapade led to a forced transfer for a student at Allentown's Parkland High School.
The 16-year-old junior dashed through the gym during a basketball game wearing only a sock to cover part of himself. Classmates raised money to pay his $300 disorderly conduct fine. But he is now commuting to a private school.
Those questioning the school board Tuesday included parent Roxane Guzie. She asked why the student had to leave when she said others who have committed assault or theft have been allowed to stay in school.
Superintendent Louise Donohue said rules bar discussing specifics of discipline. She said administrators consider "the whole student," including grades and past problems.
The transferred student said he considers the penalty unfair but that he will "be a man and do my punishment."
