Aviary will debut Wookie the sloth
PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh National Aviary is getting its first mammal. Wookie, a two-toed sloth, will make his debut on New Year's Day. Wookie is part of the aviary's plan to include reptiles and other non-feathered creatures.
Manager of the aviary's animal programs Erin Estell says the institution is not moving the spotlight away from birds, but introducing the public to other creatures that might share the same ecosystem. Wookie arrived in Pittsburgh in October after the aviary bought him from the Adventure Aquarium in Camden, N.J.
