O'Brien

Robert E. O'Brien, 97, of Roberta Avenue died Monday at Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Born Sept. 20, 1910, in Butler, he was the son of Samuel C. and Anna Mahan O'Brien.

He was World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps and was a member of American Legion Post 117.

Mr. O'Brien was a retired union paperhanger, painter and decorator. He worked out of the Painters and Allied Trades Union Local 1066. He worked in Butler for Louis Hortert Painting for more than 20 years until his retirement in 1975.

He was a member of St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church in Meridian and was a life member of St. Conrad/St. Fidelis Men's Club.

Surviving are his wife, Della M. Mohan O'Brien, whom he married Nov. 16, 1942; two sons, James A. O'Brien of Jacksonville, Fla., and Thomas E. O'Brien of Fort Polk, La.; a daughter, Mrs. Troy (Martha M.) Sheldon of Olympia, Wash.; a brother, Samuel J. O'Brien of Freedom; six grandchildren; a great-granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.

A daughter, brother, sister and two infant brothers preceded him in death.

<B>O'BRIEN </B>— Friends of Robert E. O'Brien, who died Monday, Nov. 12, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church in Meridian with the Rev. James Murphy officiating.
