The Saxonburg Golden Generals, an all-girls marching unit sponsored by the Saxonburg VFW, celebrated its first anniversary on Dec. 5, 1970 with a Christmas party at the White Star club in Buffalo Township. The Golden Generals had 98 girls in its original group, added 68 new members when applications were taken several months later, and also featured 12 musicians. Gloria Caputo served as the drill instructor.
