Deddo

Shirley R. Deddo of Sterling Village passed away Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, at New Haven Court, where she had lived since becoming ill in May.

Shirley was born in Chicago to Matthew and Louise (Zink) Deddo on Dec. 16, 1920. Shirley lost her mother in 1935 due to complications from childbirth.

After graduating from Immaculata High School, Shirley worked as a file room supervisor for several Chicago employers, including the famous Merchandise Mart.

As a single working girl, Shirley took the opportunity to travel alone and with friends, and fondly remembered her trips, especially to Paris and Hawaii.

She cared for her father in their home in Chicago until his death in 1980.

After her retirement in 1982, Shirley moved to Butler to be closer to her brother, Ken, and his family.

Shirley made many friends in the community through her church, St. Fidelis, where she was a member of the Christian Mother's Group.

Shirley enjoyed volunteering with Meals on Wheels, and showed great compassion for those who were infirm or lonely.

Shirley loved animals, especially dogs and cats, and was happiest when one was in her lap. She loved caring for the pets of her vacationing friends, and often remarked she should open a "dog-rubbing business."

Shirley's survivors include her brother, Ken Deddo and his wife, Donna, of Butler and Lewisburg; her nieces, Kim Floyd and her husband, John, of Montandon, Northumberland County; Laura Iarrapino and her children, Marc and Emily, of Butler, Gina Pardoe and her husband, Carl, and their children, Ryan, Tyler, and Miranda, of Montandon, Donna Worona and her husband, Marc, and daughters, Michaela and Lauren, of Sonoma, Calif; and her nephew, Ken Deddo and his wife, Debbie, and their sons, Kyle and Evan of Valencia.

In addition to her parents and infant sister, Shirley was preceded in death by her great-niece, Ellisa Pardoe.

<B>Deddo</B> — Friends of Shirley R. Deddo, who died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, are invited to call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Fidelis Church. Officiating will be Shirley's pastor, the Rev. James Murphy, and her brother-in-law, the Rev. John Crocker, S.J. of Cincinnati.
