HARRISBURG — A Butler hunter shot the heaviest elk during the Pennsylvania season that was held Nov. 5 through last Saturday.

SLIPPERYROCK— The Slippery Rock University women's volleyball team has earned a berth in the NCAADivision IIAtlantic Region Tournament and will face Edinboro tonight.The Rock (22-14) plays the Fighting Scots (26-10) at California's Hamer Hall. SRUlost both of its regular season matches to Edinboro this season.

SLIPPERY ROCK— Eight Slippery Rock University football players hasve received All-PSACWest honors.Senior offensive tackle Mike Butterworth earned first team honors for the third straight season. Other Rock first-teamers include guard Bron Clouser, defensive end Clint Forsha and running back Corey Manfull.Wide receiver-return specialist Paul Favers, defensive end Tyler Boudreau, defensive back Akeem Etheridge and defensive tackle Cory Lacek earned second team honors.

NEW YORK — The New York Knicks fined Stephon Marbury more than $180,000 after he blew off Tuesday night's game against Phoenix. The Knicks sent Marbury a letter informing him of the fine, according to a person with knowledge of the penalty who spoke to The Associated Press.According to the NBA's collective bargaining agreement, players are docked 1/110th of their salaries for a missed game without a reasonable excuse. With Marbury scheduled to earn $20.1 million this season, that would be about $182,800.

HOUSTON — Coach Phil Jackson said he deserved the reprimand he got from the for making a sexual reference in a comment following the Los Angeles Lakers' loss in San Antonio. The Spurs made 13 3-pointers in their 107-92 victory on Tuesday night, and Jackson was asked if too much penetration was leading to open outside shooters."We call this a 'Brokeback Mountain' game, because there's so much penetration and kickouts," Jackson said. "It was one of those games."The 2005 film, which won three Oscars, depicts two cowboys who conceal their homosexual affair."But in retrospect, it wasn't really funny," Jackson said before the Lakers played Houston. "When you take it out of context, it wasn't funny. It was a poor attempt at humor and I deserved to be reprimanded by the NBA."

NEW YORK — The producer of some early season tournaments announced it will start a 16-team postseason event that will augment the NCAA and NIT.The College Basketball Invitational will be staged this March by The Gazelle Group, which is based in Princeton, N.J., and runs the 2K Sports College Hoop Classic that benefits Coaches vs. Cancer and the O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic.The CBI intends to compete with the NIT for teams that did not make the NCAA's field of 65.
