William R. Tebay, 86, of Surrey Lane died at 6:50 a.m. Sunday at the Lowrie House, Butler Township.

Born Aug. 23, 1921, in Eau Claire, he was the son of Paul J. Tebay and Mary Elizabeth Atkinson.

He was a member of Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church. He also belonged to the VFW, and he was a former member of the Kiwanis and the MORA Club.

Mr. Tebay was a Navy fighter pilot during World War II.

He was a graduate of Slippery Rock College and had been a teacher and athletic coach before being employed at Armco-Butler Works, Castle Rubber and Polymer Enterprises of Indiana, Pa.

A lifelong sportsman, he had played football at Slippery Rock College and in the Navy. He also was an avid golfer and had enjoyed hunting grouse in his youth.

Surviving are his second wife, Margy Heasley Hoffman Tebay, whom he married April 21, 2001; two sons, James Tebay of Asheville, N.C., and Scott Tebay of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Nancy Gustason of Crittendon, Ky.; and grandchildren, Jonathan Tebay of Tarentum, Jennifer Tebay of Atlanta, Jeffrey Tebay of New Castle and Benjamin Tebay of Cary, N.C.

His first wife, Gayle Lois Marble Tebay, whom he married Nov. 27, 1945, died April 15, 1998. A brother, Paul, also preceded him in death.

North St. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Merry Hope Meloy, church pastor and the Rev. C.F. Hoffman, pastor of the First United Presbyterian Church of Darlington and the Galilean Presbyterian Church, officiating.
