PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin did not practice Friday in Philadelphia because of an unspecified knee injury but said he expects to play Saturday night against the Flyers.
Malkin, last season's NHL rookie of the year, was eighth in the league in scoring going into Friday night's games with five goals and 16 assists in 16 games.
The Penguins, losers of two in a row and four of five, are expected to start Marc-Andre Fleury in goal Saturday night. Fleury was held out of the lineup for two games as backup Dany Sabourin played, but returned to make 35 saves in a 4-2 loss to the New York Rangers on Thursday.
Defenseman Ryan Whitney is expected to play Saturday after sitting out four games with a groin injury.
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — For the third successive year, Butler graduate Annie Lowry was named first-team All-Colonial Athletic Association in women's soccer.A senior forward for James Madison University, Lowry leads her team with nine goals and is second on the squad with 23 points.
BUTLER TWP— Becky Smith was named MVPof the Butler High girls volleyball team at the squad's banquet.Other top team awards went to Katie Willison for best offense, Steph Mock for best defense, Abbie Druschel for most improved.Mock was also named first-team all-section and third- team all-WPIAL, becoming the first Golden Tornado volleyball player to be tapped all-WPIAL. Willison and Smith were second-team all-section, and Druschel and Amanda Huey were named third-team all-section.
SAN FRANCISCO — Omar Vizquel agreed to a one-year, $5.3 million contract with the San Francisco Giants Friday.The deal includes a club option that could make it worth $10.2 million over two seasons for the shortstop.Vizquel gets $5 million next season, and the Giants have a $5.2 million option for 2009 with a $300,000 buyout. The option year could become guaranteed based on Vizquel's play next season.

SHANGHAI, China — Phil Mickelson shot a 6-under 66 to move within one stroke of leader Kevin Stadler Friday after the second round of the HSBC Champions.Stadler shot a 69 to reach 11-under 133 on the Sheshan International course.
