Miller

William Clifford Miller Jr., 83, of Miller Road, Muddy Creek Township, died at 7:15 a.m. Monday at his home.

Born Aug. 3, 1924, in Hendersonville, N.C., he was the son of William Clifford Miller Sr. and Kathleen Dawson King.

He was a self-employed truck driver and retired in 1987 from Adobe Mining in Grove City.

In 1942, he enlisted in the Navy and served on the USS Bogue until 1946. He was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for extraordinary heroism in action against enemy submarines in the Atlantic area in 1943 and 1944.

Mr. Miller was an avid gardener. He enjoyed many hobbies including metal detecting, fishing and hunting. He greatly enjoyed a Christmas tradition of making hard tack candy with his family.

He was a member of the Portersville Alliance Church and attended New Life Baptist Church in Prospect.

Surviving are his wife, Pearl Jane Schroder Miller, whom he married Sept. 20, 1952; a daughter, Cathy Jane (Jeffrey) McClelland of Prospect; a sister, Connie E. Sparks of Hendersonville; and a granddaughter, Kaylin Jane McClelland of Prospect.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Kay Miller; a sister, Margaret Justus; and two brothers, James K. and Frank D. Miller.

<B>MILLER </B>— Friends of William Clifford Miller Jr., who died Monday, Oct. 1, 2007, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>SMITH FUNERAL HOME</B>, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jason Williams, pastor of the New Life Baptist Church of Prospect, officiating.
