PITTSBURGH— Butler graduate Molly Evans, a freshman on the Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming team, made her collegiate debut against Clarion last weekend with three event wins, two NCAADivision III provisional qualifying times and a school record.

Evans swam the 200-yard backstroke in 2 minutes, 5.71 seconds, breaking the previous school record by more than seven seconds.

She posted a second provisional qualifying time of 1:54.96 in the 200-yard freestyle and also won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:11.92.

Evans was named University Athletic Association Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week for her performance.

SEATTLE — The Seattle SuperSonics' owner told the NBA Friday he plans to move the team to Oklahoma City.Clay Bennett had set a Wednesday deadline for having a plan to replace KeyArena, which he says is outdated. He and the city are in a dispute about the arena lease.He has until March 1 to file for relocation with the NBA if he wants the team to play the 2008-09 season anywhere besides Seattle. The Sonics are the city's oldest major professional sports franchise.NBA spokesman Tim Frank confirmed the league received notice and is referring the matter to the owners' relocation committee.

NEW YORK — Bobby Abreu's $16 million option for next season was exercised by the New York Yankees Friday.The 33-year-old right fielder overcame a slow start to hit .283 with 16 homers and 101 RBI this year, when he finished second in the AL behind teammate Alex Rodriguez with 123 runs. Abreu has reached 100 RBI in five consecutive seasons.

BOSTON — Tim Wakefield's $4 million option was exercised by the Boston Red Sox Friday after the knuckleballer missed the World Series because of inflammation behind his right shoulder.The World Series champions also exercised a $3.85 million option on right-hander Julian Tavarez, announced catcher Kevin Cash had declined an outright assignment to Triple-A Pawtucket and elected to become a free agent, and acquired minor league outfielder Sean Danielson from St. Louis to complete the July 31 trade that sent right-hander Joel Pineiro to the Cardinals.

OTTAWA — Senators center Jason Spezza agreed to a $49 million, seven-year contract extension Friday that allowed Ottawa to lock up the final member of its potent first line.The 24-year-old would have been a restricted free agent after this season but now will be with the NHL team through 2014-15. He joins Daniel Alfredsson, who is signed through 2011-12, and Dany Heatley, who agreed to a $45-million, six-year extension through 2013-14 last month, as franchise cornerstones.Spezza's contract is split between $33 million in salary and $16 million in signing bonuses paid out over the first five years of the deal. In total, Spezza will earn $8 million in each of the first five seasons of the agreement, $5 million in 2013-14 and $4 million in 2014-15.
