The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has provided this report on the Oct. 22 New Wilmington Livestock Auction.

CATTLE 203 — (Breakers and boner cows were mostly steady. Lean cows were 2. lower.)

Steers — Choice 1-3, 1330-1540 lbs., 83.-86.; select 1-2, 77.-84.50.

Holstein steers — Choice 2-3, two, 1155 and 1220 lbs., 74. and 76.50; standard 1-2, one, 60.

Heifers — Choice 1-3, 1075-1520 lbs., 80.-86.; select 1-2, few 76.-79.50.

Cows — Breakers, 75-80 percent lean, 49.-56., few to 63.50; boners, 80-85 percent lean, 45.-51.50; lean, 85-90 percent lean, 35.-43. Shells, 34.50 and down.

Bulls — Yield grade 1, few, 1270-1775 lbs., 54.50-62.; yield grade 2, 1075-1890 lbs., 45.-52.50.

Feeder cattle — Steers — One, medium 1, 530 lbs., 88. Heifers — Medium 1-2, 400-600 lbs., 80.-90.; few, 600-750 lbs., 70.-76. Bulls — Medium 1-2, 300-500 lbs., 80.-91.; 500-600 lbs., 80.-92. Few, large 3, 470-730 lbs., 52.-58.

CALVES 115 — (Holstein bulls, 65 percent returned to veal barns.)

Vealers — Standard and good, 70-110 lbs., 30.-55.; utility, 50-80 lbs., 10.-25.

Farm calves — No. 1, Holstein bulls, 90-120 lbs., 100.-137.50; No. 2, 80-120 lbs., 50.-117.50. One, No. 1, Holstein heifer, 105 lbs., 700.; one, No. 2, 75 lbs., 230. Few, beef cross bulls and heifers, 90-110 lbs., 100.-135.

Barrows and gilts — Few, 49-54 percent lean, 250-270 lbs., 45.-47.; few, 45-50 percent lean, 240-280 lbs., 43.-44.; few, 40-45 percent lean, 210-290 lbs., 35.-41.
