FOXBURG — Erika Rothen tallied eight kills and Karly Kaufman added five kills as the A-C Valley girls volleyball team breezed past Sheffield for a 3-0 victory in a District 9 Class A pigtail playoff game, 3-0 Monday night.

The win came by scores of 25-23, 25-20 and 25-12.

The Falcons (9-8) will play at Redbank Valley today in the first round of the playoffs.

Katie Quaill had 16 service points in the win and Kristen Rose had 11 points.

BROOKVILLE— The Prospect Chiefs (9-1) won the ABCYouth Football League's junior division (9- and 10-year-olds) Super Bowl Saturday, defeating the Sabula Raiders, 30-14.Moniteau (8-3) defeated Brookville in the consolation game, 18-12.In senior division (ages 11 and 12) play, Brookville defeated Shannock Valley 30-16 in the Super Bowl and Grove City( 9-1) defeated Slippery Rock (8-3) 20-0 in the consolation game.

WEXFORD — The Seneca Valley varsity girls volleyball team won the nine-team North Allegheny Tournament recently, defeating Seton-LaSalle in the finals.The Raiders (14-2) continue WPIALTournament play at 7:30 p.m. today against Connellsville at North Hills High School.Team members include Dana Hughes, Paige Banyas, Hallie Ganch, Cassie Kulp, Megan Condit, Sarah Metarko, Jillian Galloway, Emily Hannon, Kellie Karasack, Lyndsay Shackleford, Kelly Treser, Jennifer Boyd, Maggie Gillooly, Lauren Balmert, Justine Carrow, Meghan Franz, Sarah Beals, coach Karen Martini and assistant Rob Snyder.

FRANKLIN — Brian Swartzlander of Leechburg won the Big Block Modified Challenge Series title this season.The five-race series included three events at Lernerville Speedway and two at Tri-City Speedway. Del Rougeux of Frenchville finished second, and Slippery Rock's Dave Murdick fifth.Swartzlander will collect $1,000 for his title at the 2008 banquet.

The WPIAL announced its girls soccer all-section teams.Butler's Becca Crissman and Ashley Oluschak. and Seneca Valley's Logan Gamelier, Jenny Jergel and Aleisha Rees were Section 2-AAA selections.Knoch's Alex Gordon and Amanda Sharbaugh and Mars' Marci Dillner, Sarah Heckman and Glennis Robash were Section 7 choicesFreeport's Courtney Boroski, Jordan Dunn and Kayla Eckman were tapped from Section 3-AA.Sharbaugh and Eckman were all-WPIAL honorees with Eckman also earning all-state honors.
