I-80 toll meetings slated

Sessions slated in Clarion, G.C.

HARRISBURG— Two public meetings about tolling Interstate 80 will be held near Butler County in November.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission Thursday said those two meetings will be at Clarion High School Nov. 7 and Grove City College Nov. 19.A total of eight meetings will be held across the state to gather public input about tolling I-80.

"This initial round of meetings will allow I-80 motorists and local residents to ask questions and express concerns," said Turnpike CEO Joe Brimmeier in a news release.

All meetings will be from 4 to 8 p.m. and held in an open-house style. Two formal presentations will be made at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at each meeting.

Other meetings are:

• Nov. 7 — Clearfield High School

• Nov. 8 — Bellefonte Middle School and Dubois Country Club

• Nov. 12 — Milton High School and Mountain Laurel Resort in White Haven

• Nov. 19 — Notre Dame High School in East Stroudsburg

The turnpike commission would manage the tolls under a long-term lease with the state Transportation Department. Legislation that passed the General Assembly in July permits up to 10 toll collection sites to raise billions of dollars for the state's transportation needs.

The toll plan requires approval from federal regulators and has attracted heated opposition from people who live along the interstate corridor.

U.S. Rep. Phil English, R-3rd, is a leading opponent of the tolling change.
