Pgh. museum to get Lincoln bed
PITTSBURGH — Allegheny County Council has voted to give a bed likely used by Abraham Lincoln to the Senator John Heinz Pittsburgh Regional History Center.
Lincoln is believed to have slept in the bed when he stopped at Monongahela House in downtown Pittsburgh on the way to his 1861 inauguration.
The bed was donated to the county to display in 1935. The county lost track of the bed in the 1990s but some workers found it in a storage shed last year.
Four council members opposed giving the bed away, saying it belongs to the county. But nine members voted to give the bed to the history museum on the condition that it cannot be resold without council approval.
