Penn State scales back on freshmen
STATE COLLEGE — Penn State University has trimmed freshmen admissions this fall to hold the line on enrollment.
Enrollment on the State College campus has reached 42,294 after a record freshman class of about 8,000 last year.
An unusually high percentage of the applicants who were offered admission ended up enrolling at the university.
Penn State spokeswoman Lisa Powers says the number if first-year undergraduates has been held to 6,727 this year to try to keep total enrollment close to a target of 42,000.
